Your Involvement in a Child’s Life Can Make a Big Difference

Health

With only 0.05 physicians per 1000 people, many people travel long distances for health care or go without. Access to a clinic in the village would decrease malnutrition, increase the village health, and decrease the mortality rate from preventable diseases and illnesses.

Opportunity

Burkina Faso has the world’s lowest literacy rate, with ⅓ of the population illiterate. Education creates opportunities for children to change their lives, break out of poverty, early parenthood, and pursue better employment opportunities.

Encouragement

The average length of time a child spends in school is 8 years, due to limited access and limited funds. By taking an interest in their lives, you are ensuring that a child’s education is paid for, and the family does not need to pull the child from school to work to support the family.

Prevention

With the school located in the center of the village, a clinic located on the school grounds would ensure that the health of the entire community increases. This would decrease the incidence of preventable deaths, malaria, HIV and decrease the maternal and infant mortality rate in the village.

Health Clinic

Staffed by locals, a clinic in the village would provide a source of income for many individuals. By partnering with locals in the village, the clinic will become self-sufficient in 5 years, and provide an opportunity to teach the villagers and others hygiene, nutrition, and health skills to promote health in all of Burkina Faso.
